I'm going to be late for class, realized Tsukino Haruka, and strangely, the thought didn't bother her.

Of course, little ever bothered her.

The eleventh year student shifted in her seat, rolling her small shoulders before once again leaning over her table, peering down at a thick novel resting between her forearms. Azure hair, kept in check only by patterned headband, spilled down her arms, across her shoulders, and tickled the edge of a page. Huffing in mild annoyance, she tossed her head, hair flying over her shoulder with the motion before settling on her back.

It seemed that something could bother her.

Haruka's eyes returned to her page, green gaze focused intently on the fine print, skimming lightly to find her place again. A strand of hair slipped past her shoulders, dangling by her right cheek; she sighed. Distractedly, she gathered her hair into a bun, tying it off with a scrunchie from her wrist; all the while, keeping her eyes trained on the book. So annoying, Haruka thought blandly, bringing her hands back to the table. I should just go bald...

She was almost serious.

It was early afternoon, about time for one of her math classes if Haruka's memory served her right, but instead of spending her time frying her brain over illogical scribbles, she'd opted for ditching to the library. A strange place to skip, most would think, but Haruka was perfectly at home here, settled down with a novel half as thick as wide was her hand and sipping at a cup of hot tea picked up from Serenity Cafe. The girl was perfectly content with her current situation.

Peace, quiet, a book, and a cup 'o tea... Haruka leaned back in her seat, stretching and tilting her face back; beautiful, fine features basking in the glow of the library lights. High, rounded cheekbones rounded even more when a lazy, catty smile settled on full lips. Heaven on earth.

Looking up from his book, some sort of french fantasy novel, stuffed with long words, he spotted a girl with...Well, beautifully long blue hair. Pushing his own short hair out of his eyes, he recognized her from one of his classes. She had maths now, right? Wait, he had maths too. Oh well, the batty old women was only going to teach them about fractions, or percentages...What were they doing again? Pushing the thought out of his mind, as the mop of blue hair suddenly came flying backwards, and she returned to her book.

Smiling, he couldn't help but note on the fact that she was shorter than him. That, or she had a short torso and very long legs. Coughing, he was about to say something when she put her hair in a bun, looking ever so slightly irritated, and he faltered, and left it at a cough.

Once more, trying to take contact, she leaned back in her chair, and he saw her face. My...She really was pretty from this angle. She looked like a feline of some sort. Wonderful. You can watch her all day, you never get bored. This time, standing up, he appeared infront of her, putting his book down opposite her, it made a slight 'slam'. "Oi. Aren't you meant to be in class?" He had a slightly teasing voice, but his face was curved into a gentle smile, and his eyes reflected the little kid inside of him.

Maybe he was just a tall elementary school kid at heart. Anyway, what he had said was hypocritical, seeing as he was meant to be there too. Nevermind, he was top in the class at Maths, he could miss one lesson to get to know this girl.

He'd come out of seemingly nowhere: a smiling boy with blonde curls and bright eyes. Without any invitation, he plunked down in the chair across from her, slamming his book down on the table, and cheekily inquired, "Oi, aren't you meant to be in the next class?"

Haruka raised a slim brow in response to the question, eying him dully. A frown tugged at the line of her lips. "Mmm, I suppose so." She tilted her head curiously then; her frown disappearing to be replaced by a humorous smirk. "Though, I could say the same to you." Amusement danced in green eyes, Haruka thoroughly entertained with seeing his reaction.

He was something to look at, and even Haruka, whose opinion on the opposite sex was less than flattering, could admit that there was something attractive about this...pretty boy. And, yes, he was pretty. He was almost - dare she say it? - feminine.

All right, I've just admitted that he looks like a girl. Haruka couldn't stop the twitch that left eye developed. But he is cute. And I can TELL that he is guy so...no problem there..

Her eyes felt suddenly heavy.

Sighing abruptly, Haruka folded her arms on the table, head dropping down to rest on top. Eying the stranger sideways, she huffed out an exhausted breath. "I'm tired," she muttered, face frowning again, a few rebellious strands of blue falling across green eyes. Honestly, her lazy self saw nothing wrong with dozing off right then and there, but she remembered her manners and remained awake for his sake. Her strange behavior bordered on rude, but considering her personality, it was perfectly normal. Prone to zoning out, it was not uncommon for Haruka to grow bored with a conversation.

Probably why I don't have a lot of friends... she mused distractedly, before bringing her attention back to the boy.

"Well?" Haruka reached absently for her cup of tea. "What is it now?"

Grinning broadly, he sat himself down, and tried to see what she was reading. "Maths. I don't need maths. Who needs to know that the square root of 116 is if your not going to have anything to do with it in the future, eh?" Almost tripping up some young libarian who walked past by stretching his legs out suddenly, he scratched the back of his head and smiled foolishly as an apology, before returning to watch her. Wait, was her eye...? It couldn't...

Her eye was twitching, and he had to try not to burst out in laughter. She could keep people amused for hours on end just by being herself. And then ka-boom. Head to the table, she announced she was tired. Well, big shocker there. She lifted her head, and he was slightly taken aback. She looked quite pretty with her hair in disarray. "Well...For starters, maybe you could tell me your name, and..."

There she went again, with her odd expresion. As if she was dizzy. He couldn't hold it back anymore. The corners of his mouth twitched dangerously, then his shoulders started shaking. A 'fu...' sound trickde out of his mind, a girlish giggle, and he lifted a hand to his eyes, wiping an imaginary tear away.

"God...You make the funniest faces! I could watch you all day and never get bored! You look so irritated, and then...Ditzy and..." He bent his head down, clutching his stomach, shoulders shaking violently. "And you just...And..." One more little 'Fuu...' sound trickled out of his mouth, and people started staring at him oddly. You couldn't blame them though. At first glance it probably looked like two middle school kids on a first date, bunking off from school. Or two middle school girls studying together. Most presumably the latter.

He was laughing. Quite loudly. And at her, to boot.

Haruka sighed again. "You're such a bother." she mumbled, tucking her head between her arms. She could hear him still; laughing and doubled over, holding his stomach as if anymore of this would split him in half. Honestly, she didn't see the humor in all this, but boys were weird. That was a fact and he'd only confirmed it.

She turned her head, watching him have his episode as people stared on. Huffing in mild annoyance, Haruka abandoned her tea, uncoiling an arm from beneath her head to reach across the small table and poke the boy's forehead. "Quiet down, moron. I don't wanna get kicked out."

'Cuz this is a good place to take a nap... she added to herself, retrieving her arm and pulling it beneath her head again.

"Thank you pointing out my faults," Haruka drawled, sarcasm evident. "And I, as in Haruka, would like to be left to my tea and nap."

But she continued to watch him, and beneath the disinterested look she gave him, green eyes scrutinized his face carefully, keenly.

Still chuckling, real tears brought to his eyes, he glanced up, only to see a finger poke him. Over dramatically he put a hand to it, and acted as if she had just socked him instead. "Of course I'm a bother. However, I know for a fact that you're only saying that becuase actually you find me very attractive." Giving her his most teasing grin, he quietened down, and met her gaze, his large eyes filled with pure intrest, and then smiled once more.

"I wouldn't say those are faults...More quirks...They're really cute. And you're called Haruka? What a cute name!" He thought for maybe a second, or less, before declaring. "Ruka-Chan!" And then slapping his forehead. "I know, I know, I need to shush...But I feel happy when I'm with Ruka-Chan!"

Looking at her eyes, green meeting brown, he smiled at her. For once it wasn't a girlish or foolish smile, nor was it a smirk. It almost made him look like a boy, a soft, chuckling smile. "You're eyes are a nice colour, Ruka-Chan!" Alas, the smile was replaced with his foolish, kiddy like grin.

"B-but...Maybe Ruka-Chan doesn't like being called Ruka-Chan..." He felt a bit sad now. What if he had hurt her? Maybe she was really irritated with him? Or...Maybe she was just trying to ignore him, and forget about him...Like his mother...

He was full of himself. His words only proved that. "Of course I'm a bother. However, I know for a fact that you're only saying that because actually you find me very attractive."

Cheeky thing. Haruka's eye was twitching again, but she didn't deny or confirm anything. His lips parted wide, grinning, and his eyes glinted teasingly. Haruka gave him a half-hearted glare when he went on about her name, going so far as to call her 'Ruka-chan'. Her mouth opened and she was about to offer a mild protest when his next smile stopped her short.

That, she decided internally. Is a nice smile...

For a moment, with all the childishness gone, he looked his age, handsome even, but she threw that thought out the window when his former kiddy grin returned in full force, splitting his face in an overly large gesture of happiness. And then, to her surprise, he deflated.

Quite dramatically.

"Are you all right?" Haruka raised her head from the table, concern obvious on her face. "There's no need to be worked up." Her moment of worry ended then, almost as quickly as it'd come about. Lips screwing into a frown again, she sighed. "Honestly, if I was peeved 'bout something, I would've said something."

And she dropped her head back to the table, closing her eyes, stray bits of blue hair hiding her face.

"You worry over nothing." Haruka mumbled. Then came another sigh. "But if you insist about being so bothersome about this, then I guess...you can just call me Haru-chan."

"Are you all right? Honestly, if I was peeved 'bout something, I would've said something.

"Really? So your not irritated with me? Your not going to ignore me? Not going to try to forget me, right?" The worry was back, and then he chuckled at himself. "I'm sorry. You must think I'm really wierd. I guess I am." Once again, he looked his age, but this time not with a smile, but with a few gestures. A sigh, a glance to the heavens, a quick look around, and then a kind, slightly worn out smile, as if he was a wound up toy, and his battery was low.

A robot boy. Mechanical toy.

Great, he was thinking far too much about this.

"Technically, I worry over everything, but if there's nothing to worry about..." Biting his lip, he then waved his hand, as if waving his troubles away. "I'm sorry...You seem tired. It's my fault, isn't it? I usually wear out people...You'll have to forgive me...Please?" Now he looked like a girl again. He was a hypocrite...He had told Haruka her expressions changed a lot, what about him? He went from ten to seventeen, to nine, to a baby kid.

So many thoughts run around in that head of his...

She listened to his stream of words without raising her head, without opening her eyes. He went on and on and on, babbling a river of rapid questions and jumbled apologies. It was clear to Haruka that he was highly insecure.

Best to shut him up before he hyperventilates...

"There's nothing to forgive." she mumbled into her arms, sighing. Distantly, she noted that that seemed to be a habit of hers. "Really, I couldn't care less about little offenses. Why don't we call ourselves friends and make up?"

Haruka snuggled into her arms, exhaling softly.

"I'm not bored with you," she said at last. "I'm just like this and you caught me at a bad time - I always get sleepy after taking my tea."

Her body was agreeing with her at the moment and she nearly slipped into that dark relief before a sudden thought slammed into her head and jolted her wide awake. Head snapping up suddenly, hair flying free from her scrunchie, Haruka stared at him with an expression somewhere between annoyance and realization. "You never told me your name, but I've already given you mine."

A frown twisted her lips again. "If we're going to friends, then you oughta return the favor."

Haruka was both sincere and mildly annoyed with herself for not thinking of this sooner.

"Friends? Friends? FRIENDS?" He leant over and grabbed her hands, his eyes twinkling. "Yosh! I will be your friend!" The poor girl had no idea what she had just forced upon herself. Sitting hurridly down as he was bieng stared at, he let her finish.

"I'm really not boring? It's the tea's fault?" Twiddling his fingers, he looked up, and smiled. "Of course." Taking on of her hands again, he continued, his girly smile still on his face. "I'm Tonya Chase! I'm French, by the way!" He shook her hand vigourously, and then looked down at her cup. "Tea, eh?"

He sat down, and returned to his book, and let out a giggle. Looking up, he smiled, and then said. "Now that we're friends, do you want to go get something to eat in a little while? There's about half an hour before this lesson ends, and then there's art, I think. Or was it English?"

Haruka had only half a second to herself in the time that she put her head down before she found her hands dragged out from underneath her head, forehead connecting with the table painfully afterwards, and was pulled up from her seat and discovered the boy inches from her face. His eyes were glowing, literally, as he proclaimed his agreement. "Yosh! I will be your friend!"

He was a strange boy, to say the least. Haruka was sure he had issues (she guessed they were self-esteem as he often apologized for no real reason), but she was not concerned with that (Haruka was quite aware of her own...'quirks' so his did not bother her). His exuberance was bothersome, but at least, he wasn't like other individuals of the male species. Hormone-driven goblins... Haruka nearly snarled inside, recalling quite clearly her many run-ins with the opposite sex.

And, coming back to the present situation... People were staring at her. Well, at her and the...boy.

Haruka sighed, but it seemed her new friend had also discovered the watching audience and he promptly let go of her to sit back in his seat. She had only a few moments to enjoy her personal space before it was, once again, intruded on by the eccentric boy. He snatched up her hands again, squeezing them tightly in his excitement as went on animately. "I'm Tonya Chase! I'm French, by the way!"

She nodded at that, carefully extracting her hands from the vigorous handshake. Shaking them lightly to ensure that she still had feeling in them, Haruka reached absently for her tea. The boy's energy was affecting her's and she felt the need to down some of the hot liquid, but, after staring forlornly into the little styrofoam cup, she tossed it over her shoulder into the trash can behind. Empty... Crap.

Just what she needed - the one thing in the world that settled her was gone. Sulking, Haruka almost missed Tonya's next words, "Now that we're friends, do you want to go get something to eat in a little while? There's about half an hour before this lesson ends, and then there's art, I think. Or was it English?" On top of her head, invisible cat ears perked at the offer, Haruka's eyes glimmering. A smile crawled across her face as she absently picked up her scrunchie from where it'd fallen on the table. Gathering her hair up and then securing it with a deft twist of her hand, she laid her hands on the table, on the book forgotten long ago, and beamed, eyes shut into small, pleasant crescents.

"Y'know? I think I'd love to."

It's almost as if he read my mind... He's probably okay, at least. I think I might get used to having him around. And...he does seem nice.

Her grin widened, a set of white teeth gleaming and exposed. "I actually feel like doing something for once, so you'd better take advantage of that!"
