Normally he’d have gotten mad at such an action. Ripping out a page in any book was a devious act in his eyes. They held such knowledge, so many stories and adventures hidden within their pages. And yet, as Sai-chan tore out a page to write his number down on, he found he didn’t mind. The University student was pretty much doing exactly what he had wanted to do, taking his frustration out on that useless book. He had to admit that he’d actually read the thing twice already -or at least, the pages in which dealt more so about abilities that fueled from emotions. He hadn’t read anything else because it wasn’t knowledge he wanted to know. Other people’s abilities were none of his business just like his was only whom he chose it to be. However, he did find himself wanting to lecture the older man anyway for the action, even if it didn’t bother him.
“You know? I’m sure there was a pad of paper or something also on the librarian’s desk that you got that pen from that could have been used for you to write your number on. And really, did you even ask? I could have just put the number in directly to my cell phone.” Nikolai made an absent move of pulling the black Katana out of his back pocket, reading over the man’s perfect handwriting to type the number in. But after typing in the number he paused on naming the source, gray eyes twisting back onto the subject, one eyebrow arching as he pushed the numbers without looking. Interestingly enough, they spelled out: My Pet. “And don’t think you’re not returning that woman’s pen. I don’t need Asai-sensei asking me to use my sight and see whom keeps stealing the bloody things. She’s been dying for me to use it ever since she learned of it last week.” Nik had this odd habit of naming people in his phone under different names than their actual ones. Call it his personal code if someone else happened to get a hold of the thing, but most of them were fairly easy to understand if you thought them through. Sperm Donor had been his father’s name although it has long since been disconnected. Dearest Evil was his mother’s name, Torture House was his home phone and that left Guardian Angel for his sister. Although oddly enough, there were quite a few other number’s in his phone, from That Asian to Preppy Bitch and even Grampies. They were all from females whom adored him at his old school or a few buddies he had allowed to hang out with him before his sister’s kidnapping. He wondered why he didn’t think twice about the name he’d selected for Sai-chan. Because it was fairly ridiculous.
"I merely have to drive Karu-kun home once the dance is over... but, no doubt he will find some after party to hitch a ride to, eh? My apartment is only a few blocks away. I'd be happy to drive you both in Karu-kun's limo... he won't be needing it until later." Nik took the words without little to say in return even though he knew he‘d most likely be going with Sai-chan without his dear sister. "Perhaps you can stay out in the hall, though... So as to, avoid a nightmare. Unless you think you can control it, in which case I'd love to make you and Ayame some of my special tea." He was still holding that black cell phone, it’s top flipped open and so he scrolled down his list until he hit: Guardian Angel. The phone started dialing instantly and he sighed that it was his good fortune that little Ayame had not turned her phone off. Even more his good fortune that the phone was picked up on its first ring. He really hated waiting.
“Mochi-mochi?” he heard her sweet voice greet and he couldn’t keep his sincere smile from forming across his face at the altogether pleasant tone he heard. It meant she was okay, that she was having fun. And this little relief made him not care at all that he was actually smiling for real in front of Saito. “Something’s come up, love. And I’ll be finding my way back home soon. I didn’t want to intrude on your fun tonight, so I was going to leave by myself. Can I trust that Toshio-kun and Miss Saraki-kun will give you a ride home?” his voice was a tad bit softer than he’d have spoken to the man beside him, and he turned his back on Sai-chan so he could look outside the window and play with a strand of his hair that was falling a bit too close to his eyes. He knew what his sister was going to say even before he heard the loud static, the background noise of the formal’s music and then his sister’s whispered question to her two friends to make sure they would give her the ride.
“Yeah, they said that they’d give me a ride home. But are you sure, Nik? Aren’t you having just a little bit of fun?” the worry was unexpected but the go-ahead on leaving was what he’d had in mind. The youth gave a slight look back at his companion over his shoulder, smiling again as he shook his head to himself. “Yeah. I’m managing. And Aya? Be safe.” it was meant as a goodbye but the girl on the other end yelled something to keep him on the line. “You’re not lying to me, are you Niisan?” His smile dropped and he almost felt like throwing the phone as he realized what she was implying. He supposed it had only been inevitable for her to despise him a bit after that one lie he had given her the night of the kidnapping. But he had never heard her speak of it until now and suddenly he wanted to explain to her how sorry he was. But, after taking another look over his shoulder, he told himself it was not the time or place to do such a thing. Besides, some things were just a lot better to discuss in person.
“No, love. Never. I’ll not lie to you ever again, rest assured. I’ll leave my phone on if you need anything, though. Ok?” He slapped the thing closed moments later, stuffing the phone into his back pocket again and then turning to address his companion.
“Fine. I’m ready when you are. But I’ll not stay out in the hall like a fucking dog. I can control my powers just fine, thank you.” back to a cold bluntness. Geez, did he ever change? And that was so a lie right there. He couldn’t control them that well, and really, he couldn’t control anything when in this man’s presence.

Ren looked at Nikolai with wry smile while being berated by the teen about tearing a page from the book. It was almost as if Nikolai was giving him a verbal spanking... Which what was making him so humorous. Looking inadvertantly at the pen in his hands, Ren placed it gently on the table, almost akin to a dog dropping a ball from its mouth. Ren was pretty careless in such manners; most unlike Nikolai. But at least he was looking out for someone other than himself. Ren was quite happy just to have Nikolai be punching his numbers in the phone. Would he actually call?
Automatically shutting up as Nikolai began to dial, Ren looked on and was obviously listening, as if he was a part of the conversation. Nosey, a product of intense curiousity. Who was he calling? And was that..... a smile? Ren could've fallen over; so beautiful when he smiled! Oh, if only he would smile all the time, it wouldn't seem as if the world was ending. he must've been speaking to Ayame, who appeared wouldn't be invited to their little tea party. Oh! A private tea party with Nikolai-san! Ren was glowing with contentment, smiling as Nikolai hung up and addressed him in a totally different mood.
"You sure?" Ren pressed, however Nikolai seemed resolute enough, which made Ren shrug it off and trust him, "Alright... Let's go then!" Ren beamed, turning to head for the door with great enthusiasm. With Nikolai by his side, Ren felt as if he could take on the darkness, the ghosts, the entire world. It was so strange.. to feel such unadulterated affection for another. Sweet affection. Ren was already thinking up which tea to use, and hoping that Nikolai would like his treats, along with a number of other frivolous things.
It was like a breath of fresh air, or like a virgin. Freedom to breathe, and not feel as if he needed to impress or work. Love was much more fun when there wasn't any work to it - no acting. True emotions; true happiness. God, true guilt. This was it. This was what it was like for him. How could Ren just turn a blind eye? Ren was so selfish back then. If only he had acknowledged his feelings.... Didn't tease him so. Ren prayed to God that karma wasn't such a vicious, literal being. Or else, he was in deep shit.
