Clothing Preference:
Zou is the type to dress in comfortable, form-fitting type clothes. He normally wears muted tones when it comes to his t-shirts—black, white, dark red—though occasionally, he'll go "flashy and clashy"—bright green, orange. Whether black, white, or blue, Zou is almost always wearing jeans. And for footwear, white sneakers usually do the trick.
Description:
The first thing one notices about Zou would his almost "aloof" type appearance. He doesn't hold himself with any type of confidence, nor self-loathing. The teen slouches slightly, and his natural expression is a solemn face. His features are sharp, and one could consider them almost scary if they looked too far into it. Zou has a slim type of muscled look about him, with a subtle strength that enables him to throw a punch easily. The seventeen-year-old has vivid year hair and slightly duller—though intense—red eyes, with thin red eyebrows arching over. Zou is pale, as is a common trait with his heritage, and he doesn't tan all too easily. On the boy's wrists, he wears dark blue—so dark, they're almost black—wristbands, about three inches in length, polyester in type, and somewhat thin. These never come off, unless he's going to sleep. But, the most noticeable thing about Zou is his gum. The teen always has at least one pack of American spearmint gum, easily bought in Japan. Whether chewing, snapping, or blowing a bubble, the redhead can easily be identified by such.

Personality:
With a personality about as aloof as his appearance, Zou tends to keep his complications hidden beneath a slightly shallower—though not exactly shallow in a bad way—personality. Truly, the teen has no true "problems," but obviously, some have it easier than others. He doesn't like to let people see his true feelings, and he hates talking about himself. Hell, he hates knowing about other people's lives as well, but unfortunately, Zou has always been the type to look out for the little guy. He dislikes seeing others bullied, per se, due to his past, but while people aren't his favorite thing in the world, he talks to everyone he knows with something of a grin on his face—whether or not he likes a person has nothing to do with how he treats them. Everyone deserves some form of respect, in his eyes; and everyone is equal. In fact, Zou isn't even clear about his "hatred" of others. He's friendly to everyone, so it would actually be hard to tell who he likes and doesn't like. He might act nice to everyone, but being alone, he feels, would make everything easier. To get to the point of that—to students, he's courteous. To teachers...is another story. An important thing to know about Zou, is that he isn't exactly one for the law. He doesn't really follow strict rules, but nor does he purposely break them.
The boy is technically a troublemaker, but only because certain limits are set that he has trouble sticking with. A main one would be "no gum in the classroom." With his near obsession with gum, to ask the redhead not to chew it in the classroom could be considered a felony. Because of this, teachers tend to rag on him, or send him out into the hallway. Teachers, while not disliking the student, feel he could be less...irritating. Unconsciously, Zou might tend to provoke people when they are yelling at him, by propping his feet up on a desk, or snapping his gum. The seventeen-year-old is not an easily angered person—but say the right words or push the right buttons, and he'll normally narrow his eyes and speak in short, concise sentences. His tone will be almost threatening, and his entire body tenses up. But really, his angry side is completely different from his normal side. Yes, Zou can be aloof, and treats everyone equal, he can be rather unexplainably distant, and tends to be rather quiet. He is careless—not carefree—careless. Nine out of ten times he doesn't give a damn what people think about him. He doesn't really get embarrassed easily—though with his skin tone, if he did blush, it'd be easy to see, but he's gotten very good at suppressing any random blushes that may rise up—but again, he's not one to get embarrassed easily, by anything, it seems.
He might say random things without being talked to first, or make random comments, but normally he'll never even bother trying to hold a full-out conversation unless spoken to. While his sentences are short when angry, and while he might not have a speech prepared for everyday talking, he'll at least respond with a reasonable amount of words in civil conversation. Honestly, Zou can be seen as two-faced—he has his habit of being "nice" to people, and once they're gone, he might mutter to himself about how annoying they truly were. Don't try to blackmail him about this. Truly, he's not being cruel. What most people he is kind to depend on, is his being nice to them. As long as he continues such, they honestly don't care what he says about them otherwise. They may even know what he really thinks of them, but as long as it's not to their face, it doesn't matter. The redhead is just that kind of person. But above all, there is one thing—the most important thing, one has to remember about Zou: He is not your shrink. Do not tell him your problems, because while he might listen out of courtesy, he does not care, and he doesn't want to hear them.

Relatives:
Mother – Fujiwara Mine
Father – Fujiwara Hoshiro
Sister – Fujiwara Emily Rie – Deceased
Background:
Fujiwara Ai Elle was born Fujiwara Elle on April 20th, 1990, in Japan. He had a sister named Fujiwara Rie who was almost two years older than him. The only thing important about this is that when he was four, and his sister six, his family packed up and moved to America. Due to his young age, it was fairly easy for Elle to learn English as he attended school. He learned how to speak, read, and write the language—meanwhile, at home, he was taught both the Japanese language and the customs. The boy never bothered asking why he got both worlds in his education. Also, this time was when Elle's middle name came into play. The Japanese did not have middle names—but Americans did. Trying to maintain an American tradition, Elle and Rie's parents gave both such. Ai and Emily, respectively. Honestly...up until Elle was in fifth grade, nothing deliberately exciting or life-changing happened. He was fairly content with life, and nothing really occurred—but there's always a time when children start growing up, and notice things they didn't before. Elle was only ten when his troubles started. For the most part, children he'd grown up with hadn't noticed or cared much about his name. But upon realizing Elle was in fact a girl's name...things got pretty bad. Yes, it was childish, stupid, and pointless—but that's just what children do, whether or not they realize their cruelty. Elle endured numerous rumors—some harmless, others much more.
Never let it be thought fifth graders are naïve. Rumors escalating from just a name! Elle had a girl's name, so he had to be gay. That grew to that he liked cross-dressing, and that grew to the poor boy was into underage prostitution and worked the street corners by selling his body to men for money since his family was poor. All were lies—but Elle never denied them. In fact, while the rumors went down anything but well with him, he never cried about it, and since he hadn't had many friends to begin with, the only person he talked to on a regular basis was Rie. Though the boy would never admit it, he had something of a sister complex—but anyways. Not long after the mocking started, Elle just...changed. Before, while he'd been quiet and something of a loner, he'd always been somewhat shy and timid, but sweet enough in his own right—but now everything was turning on him, and he was hurt and shocked by it, though he never let such show. The boy's personality did almost a complete one-eighty, and school was a living nightmare. He didn't understand why he was being judged—by his name! It made absolutely no sense to him. The rumors started getting to him, and Elle didn't hesitate to start fights in school once provoked. He got suspended numerous times, but his parents always managed to convince the school board not to expel him.
Elle Fujiwara, who'd been an overall good and quiet student before, just wasn't a "good kid" anymore, not in anyone's eyes, aside from Rie's. His parents couldn't understand what had happened, since their son was never willing to talk about it with them, but they tried their best. It's important to know that this is when Elle's gum habit started. At first, it was for two reasons: one, it helped him focus and pushed back his anger, and two; it was always good for annoying the teachers. But after awhile, this habit grew, so the boy found himself needed to chew it when he walked home, and at home, and while doing his homework—there were very few instances when he wouldn't, like while eating and sleeping, to name some obvious ones. In late June of 2001, his parents decided to move back to Japan—partially to escape from all the bad incidents occurring around their son, and partially so hat their daughter wouldn't enter an American high school. Both children were overall fine with this decision—Rie missed Japan, and Elle was rather curious about the country he couldn't remember. He was eleven, and his sister almost thirteen. Life in Japan was...better than Elle could have hoped. No one there mocked him for his "girly" name. He was "Eru," though most just referred to him as "Fujiwara." Because of this, the boy's attitude slowly started changing—unless provoked, like he had been in America, the boy had never started fights, so mostly, he was on defense.
When no jokes were cracked, and he was treated humanely he just...got better. He also learned from his past. His childhood is the entire reason he treats everyone equally, and doesn't judge them before getting to know them. It should randomly be noted that Elle was quite happy to learn the city he was living in, Hidamari, carried the same type of gum he'd chewed in America. So, middle school came—and Elle was known to some degree by everybody, but couldn't really be considered "popular" or "unpopular" since he made no effort to fit in, but also didn't push anyone away. He was a curiosity, but definitely not in a bad way. From age twelve to half of age fourteen, life was consistent and normal. Rie, who had elected not to talk the high school entrance exam upon graduating lower secondary, shocked the entire family by telling them she had a boyfriend, was next to positive she was pregnant, and was moving to America with them. As demonstrated by what happened with their son four years earlier, were very kind and gracious about it, though it saddened them some to hear the news. Their daughter was about to turn sixteen—far too young, they thought, though accepted it. In fact, of the three, Elle was the most affected—he still had that sister complex, though he'd adamantly deny it and it wasn't as obvious as before. The day Rie was set to leave on a plane, she took her brother aside and handed him a small, thin cellphone and a tiny dark blue bear phone charm.
It was a bit girly, he thought, but since it was a gift from Rie, Elle treasured it, attaching it to the phone and promising never to take it off. The almost-sixteen-year-old promised she would call him one day from America, and her brother held her to that promise. Now with his sister gone, and Elle just living with his parents, the last year of junior high came, and with it, tests. Though lazy the boy could be at times he took the Hidamari High School Entrance Exam, and got in with no problem. And thus—upper secondary. Elle kept the same attitude he had in middle school—giving everyone at least some small greeting, but for some reason, unlike lower secondary, such caused his popularity to skyrocket. Shortly after joining the school, the boy received two nicknames, one more common than the other. The first was Ai; his middle name. Since a middle name was highly uncommon, others liked to poke at it for fun—but the nickname everyone used was Zou. It just seemed to fit him for some reason—he being an "image" to them, almost an idol but not quite, and the teen went with the flow. All through the years, Zou kept the phone Rie gave him—but unbeknownst to the boy, something his parents won't tell him...the plane his sister took to America crashed on the way there, leaving no survivors. His parents, while heartbroken, keep up a good façade, one their son has never seen through. It's been three years since Rie died. All through those years, Zou has kept the phone she gave him. To this day, he waits for her phone call.

The sun was shining brightly through the far window, flooding the entire room with light since no curtains existed to block it out. On the other side of the room, across from the window, there was a bed. If one were to peek closer, they would spot a tousled head of bright red hair halfway under the covers, fast asleep as shown by their near silent snores. While the sun was extremely bright, since the face was covered by blankets, their eyes were shielded from the blinding-ness. Deep in the throes of sleep they were...until an alarm clock rudely went off. Much grumbling and twisting of the body ensued, until a hand snaked out from under the covers and smacked it on the alarm clock, effectively shutting it up—before the figure suddenly fell off of the bed. Silence reigned supreme, until the body began wiggling free of its blanket prison—which simply meant the covers were wrapped so tightly around them they were having trouble moving. After five minutes, the stranger emerged, the sun blasting its rays on them. A hand came up, rubbing eyes tiredly, while they yawned.
A boy, no more than seventeen and suffering from a bad case of bed head. He squinted at the sun, his eyes cracking open to reveal dull red eyes. Loose, light blue pajamas hung off his lean frame, and bare feet shuffled against the ground as the boy proceeded to leave the room. The teen ran a hand through his hair as he went to the kitchen to greet his mother, yawning all the while. "'Morning, mother," she pecked him on the cheek affectionately, and he stumbled away after that, leaving the room to eat breakfast with his father. Mumbled greetings were exchanged, the seventeen-year-old eating quickly before getting up, looking a bit more awake than before. He ran back to his room quickly, making his way over to his bed stand and grabbing a pack of gum, tossing it on a desk next to his uniform, which was slung over a chair. The teen escaped to the bathroom after that, taking care of his business before emerging in a towel, making his way back to his room to get dressed.
Ten minutes later found the redhead walking to school, chewing on a stick of gum and occasionally blowing a green bubble. Several people passed him while he walked, all calling cheerful greetings, which he returned with a small grin each time. He carried no bag, just himself, and his hands were shoved in his pockets as he continued chewing on the stick of gum. A casual sigh passed his lips as he slipped past the school gates, shuffling to his classroom. The boy dropped into his seat, calls of "Good morning, Zou!" following him. He acknowledged them with a wave of his hand before the bell rang, class starting—but not three seconds in did the teacher slam his hands down onto Zou's desk. "Fujiwara Elle—Zou—whatever! Gum chewing is not allowed in class!" The redhead stared at the teacher before snapping his gum. The man turned red in anger, "Hallway, now!" A shrug was his response as Zou got up from his seat, finding himself in the hallway holding a bucket of water not a minute later. The teen leaned back against the wall, propping up one foot on it. Ah well. That was high school for you.
